Magnetic Sump Bolt V12
Discussion
Hello guys,
I have been messing about in the machine shop whilst waiting for the material for the dipsticks, and have come up with these.

On the left is an Original Aston Martin V12 sump bolt, and on the right is my new magnetic sump bolt. Aston used to supply these for the older models but Gaydon would rather sell a new one each time I suppose?
The new bolt comes equipped with a new Neodimium rare earth permanent magnet to collect any metallic particles floating about in the oil. Hopefully, you will always find the magnet clean, and you never really needed the bolt, but there is something satisfying seeing a clean magnet and getting a clean bill of health.
Alternatively, any metal particles, however small attached to the magnet provide early warning for any impending issues, and anything stuck to the magnet, clearly got past the filter and is no longer circulating around your engine.
You will not need to replace it every time like the OEM bolt either because new sealing washers are available in the aftermarket for just a few pence.
Not sure if your Aston dealer will be too pleased not buying a new OEM one at £13 a time though! They may refuse to fit it on service.
Concerned that the magnet may fall into your engine? Well here's how strong the magnet is and how secure it is in the bolt.........

Thats a 0.925kg, 32mm commercial vehicle spanner hanging off the magnet.
I have made one for myself and can do more at £27.50 if anyone is interested?
I will do some after the dipstick handles.
