Interesting new concept aimed at getting youngsters into building kits -

(I await the knockers).

What, quick build knockers?

I think it is a good idea, wondered why they did not do this years ago. Some kids do not have the attention span but it will get better as they get older. Hook em in early.

If they haven't thought of that, maybe we should pass on the idea to them.

They would break when you tried to use them. And how would you fix them to the door?

They look good get the price a little lower and they are into the pocket money range unless my concept of what passes for acceptable pocket money has been adversly affected by how much disposable income i have as an adult.

I think revell have had "easykit" for a while now. It's good to see Airfix doing something similar. I think they are a good way of letting kids have a go without too much chance of stuff going awry.

The concept seems to cunningly combine the lack of scale fidelity of LEGO with the lack of reconfigurability of plastic kits.

I've done a couple of the easykits with my son and they are not brilliant. They generally need trimming and sometimes glue to persuade the parts to stay together.

As long as the quality of these kits is up there with Lego I think they could be onto a winner.

It's to prevent them from being introduced to the sniffing of the glue...

Revell have been doing 'quick build' Star Wars stuff for a couple of years.

Not brilliant quality but good enough for under a tenner. My 8 year got me to put some of them together so that he could crash them into each other!!!

Which he did. The kits are now useless.

Sounds to me that they are eminently useFUL - for smashing together.

My brother and I used to do that with our Lego contraptions. There's obviously an innate destructive tendency in little (and big) boys.

Lego obviously don't hold a blocking patent on the assembly system.

In fact, didn't Airfix have a Lego type construction system back in the 1960s called "Betta Bilda".

A quick Google reveals they did -

Sadly I'm old enough to have had that Betta Bilda set for real when I was a little kid in the 60's!
I didn't realise it was made by Airfix. I have a feeling it was quite a lot cheaper than Lego and more available. I liked it and some things were pre formed like doors and windows and tiles.
