I need a job in London

Self explanatory really. I want to move to London as my partner is moving there to study. I have been looking for full time jobs there for 8 weeks now, with barely any rejection letters/emails to show for it. Applying for loads of things, retail work (what I currently do) laboratory work (what I am qualified to do) driving jobs, admin jobs, almost anything.
I need it to be full time to cover rent etc, lowest salary I could take would be £1000 per month, which isn't asking a lot really! What does PH think? Just keep trying, something will come up? Or am I fatally flawed? For the record, I am doing this at the moment via internet/phone, when my partner moves there in a few weeks I will be able to stay there a couple of days a week and actively seek out work.

I work in Canary Wharf and there are always signs up in the shops and bars looking for staff.

£1000 a month is £6.25 a hour if working monday to friday 9-5.

Anywhere will pay that much, tesco for instance pays almost £7, £10.35 on sundays or nights

OP you won't to get work, there won't be many jobs that pay less than what you need. Get yourself signed up with an agency is what I'd do, they'll probably have plenty of suitable vacancies.

Thanks Slow I know that as I am currently working in a supermarket at £6.41 an hour, the problem with tesco et al is that they only ever seem to offer part time hours, I need to have guaranteed pay. Right now I do 35 hours a week most of which is overtime, but overtime is never guaranteed. Cheers though Yeah will have to find an agency to sign up with. Of course I'm aiming for higher than £1k per month but that's really the minimum I need.

Bump. I got a job in London, same company, new store in Wandsworth. It's not ideal and now that I'm settled here I'd like to find something else. The problem (as ever) is that I know what I don't want to do, but not what I do want! Suppose this is a little bit late Animal but I'm not a graduate (dropped the final year, ran out of finance), currently in retail management. The hours are bad, the pay is bad and it's not a particularly nice environment to work in. I thought I might put my knowledge and love of cars into practice, have been in touch with many classic car dealers and specialists, but no luck.

Get yourself set up on LinkedIn and then join some business development and sales groups then keep an eye on the jobs sections. Think of companies you have an interest in and would like to work for then check out their website for career section then write an appropriate covering letter and send your cv in.

Recruitment consultants can be useful but you need to build a relationship with them so they have confidence in you then they will put you forward for the decent roles. So be prompt with feedback after interviews and be honest but avoid negatives just say your not quite sure on the role if so.
