early Chimaera blower motor question
Discussion
I think it's generally regarded as a pig of a job being right down the left end of the passenger footwell.
If you're very lucky I believe a few had a removable hatch but most will require cutting out a hole to access.
Don't order a new one until you've inspected the old one - the resistor packs on the motor often fail and once replaced the motor wil spin up again. Or could just be seized.
I think a genuine original will be costly from the usual sources and not sure from whence it came - possibly vauxhall.

Battery out, ecu out, tie the birds nest out of the way and then spend the next hour upside down, enduring spells of dizziness and frustration, whilst locating and breaking off the rivets that hold the fan plate to the footwell. To add to the misery there is a bead of silicone also bonding the panel.
Once the panel is free then you've got to be creative as to how to get fan and panel out past the heater pipes. I managed to un-seize my fan with WD40 and 4 years later it is still working

If I remember correctly the motor is GM and similar if not the same as the MK2 vauxhall Astra and I have un-seized more than I care to remember (on Vauxhalls) the motor runs in steel bearings rather than bronze so if not used frequently or kept in damp conditions the bearings seize
hence why many have managed to resurrecting with penetrating fluid's
tight or dry bearings is what causes premature resistor pack failure too IMO.

Usual suspect (on later cars anyway) is the fan switch control box in the upper dashboard which burns out at the connector.
Mine control box was fine so I resigned myself to stripping the blower motor out.
Took me all of 10mins - put my head under dash saw a loose connector , tracked it back to another connector , plugged it in and hey presto fan worked! Not often something is that easy on a TVR!
For future reference my blower motor (1997) was supplied by two wires one yellow and one green (not sure which is live).,
Must have been disconnected when the last owner fitted a new alarm.

Thanks for the info I've found a rectangular panel and found said block connector when you switch fan on for a few seconds it starts to get quite hot so I suspect the motor as there is clearly current and draw there, will build my back muscles up a bit and have a go a fancy it may free off with a prod and a poke the car has been stored for seven years most of the other dramas have self fixed so this may be then only issue apart from the reversing light switch!Usual suspect (on later cars anyway) is the fan switch control box in the upper dashboard which burns out at the connector.
