997 turbo

Hi, having sold my E92 M3 I'm on the hunt for a gen 1 997 turbo. As I haven't owned a Porsche before is there anything regarding spec that is deemed important. Also if anyone is thinking of moving there car on give me a shout, I would prefer tip. Budget 45k to 55k
Any advice welcome.

I much prefer the manual's, IMO a much nicer driving experience.

Tiptronics are great.

Sports Chrono is the main thing to have and Porsche warranty.(no over rev worry)

Yep Sports Chrono is a must.

They come pretty well specced as standard to be honest. Sat nav on the PCM, bi xenon, sunroof, bose.

Heated seats are nice in the colder weather with the leather seats.

The 997.1 didn't come with bluetooth as an option, but instead a silly little sim tray in the PCM, which is IMO useless, so I've rarely seen any cars with that option anyway.

Rear parking sensors are nice to have, but I can't imagine it would make or break a deal.

Cruise control can be retrofitted for a few hundred quid by an OPC.

I can't think of any other really important or memorable options to be honest. You won't go wrong with most turbo's with sports chrono.

Are you sure a sunroof is standard?

I had a 997.1 that had one, and when I upgraded to 997.2 I didn't get one, also no rear wiper which I miss more. On the upside PCM3 is fantastic compared to PCM2.1

If you an stretch your budget at all I'd strongly recommend the Gen2, as it's a MUCH improved car in every area.

100% agree on the Chrono, although new purchasers must have considered it an essential too as you'll not see many without.

I also went from an E92 to a Gen 1 Turbo.

My must haves were PCM3 (coming from the M3 PCM2.1 was st), LSD, Adaptive seats and Sports Chrono.

The 997.1 is so different to the 997.2, I'm not really sure the 997.2 ever warranted being called a 997 in the first place.

I mean, a brand new engine, new drivetrain, new electronics... It was far far more than just a facelift. The 997.2 is much closer to the 991 than it is to the 997.1.

997.2 comes with PDK (and a new engine).

Common consensus is that PDK blows tip away. Less common consensus is that it blows manual away too (retreats slowly from fuse...)

PDK cars are faster than manual cars - no debate.

..Is Sport Chrono a must..? really..? are they not fast enough stock..? sure you get an over boost function with Sport Chrono, but you get the bloody ugly wart on the dash which just looks nasty IMO.

I'm considering 1 because it hasn't got Chrono, if it's not fast enough, which I seriously doubt, I will get it mapped.

PDK best one to go for but are about £20k + than the cheapest 997.1

For resale and the extra torque.

If remapping then guess not important.

If not as standard, it's a no cost option. As is rear wiper delete (I deleted mine as I thought the lines of the car were cleaner).

I certainly never paid for the sunroof, and my car has one. But then, given the no-cost choice, I would always have a sunroof so maybe that's where I was mistaken.

Thanks for the link, very interesting read. When my previous car sold (yesterday) i said to the wife i'm going to have a good look round and take my time. what a load of rubbish put a deposit on one today.

UK spec 997.1 Turbos have a sunroof as standard.

Sport Chrono can be retro-fitted by an OPC but without the dash clock.

It's a late gen 1 so has the pcm3 and factory fitted Bluetooth.
Meteor grey convertible tiptronic with the following:
OEM warranty till oct 14
Black adaptive sports seats
Rear parking sensors
Cruise
Sports chrono
Bose sound.
Wind deflector.
Heated seats

Beautiful condition with 17k miles from new.

Looking for sensible offers if this is of interest to yo...

Take something relevant like 50-70 in 3rd, floor both, extra transmission loss of tip would make it fractionally slower. Tip may well change gear faster but with a manual I select the right gear in advance of the acceleration.

Make no odds as they both are in third. You can pre select a gear with tip anyway, just press the button

It's really important to try a "tiptronic" first because it's just a fancy slushbox and not for everyone especially in a sports car. PDK obviously utterly different and actually a manual gearbox under the covers.
