Question. Cars blowing smoke now, though has been for a while. Possible a top end re build. So was thinking, whilst this is to be done (also new cam) etc, why not get the car Supercharged!
Seen the last thread for the sprintex charger, though are there any others out there for my 420SE?
Of course this will be in light of a good engine...

Cheers

Hi Mate..There are different types of superchargers available and they all need fabrication in some way shape or form..I would say by looking at the S102 sprintex fitment that it is by far the easiest application for an RV8, The centrifugal rotrex that carsy posted is a good set up..However the prices start from 2.5K so you need to be sure of what you need and how much it is costing, I believe that sprintex..(Australia) is re-making/Re-made the twin screw blowers and are now called 5th generation, Might be worth a look..Also for your Capacity running a low-mid boost blower would probably be more than a sufficient grin factor..You could go for staged heads and a blower profiled cam if you are having the engine rebuilt..Just be sure that all mating surfaces are true and flat..Also that gaskets and seals are of good quality..Fuelling will need to be uprated but i wouldnt mess with adding electronic ignition set ups as some will not read over a certain degree of temperature and you will end up with poor peformance, Not sure what the SX ECU's had..Maybe a piggy back ECU?.. Do plenty of research mate before taking the plunge..But all in all i would say "Pound for LB"..Go for it!...Ziga

In my opinion there is no substitute for increases in capacity. The 500 upgrade I have done in terms of engine transplant is by far the best approach to real BHp. The key words here are real and transplant. The engine fitment, will match exsisting mounts, clutch and gearbox. there is no major fabrication needed apart from the coolant swirl pot. Replumbing of the coolant system for the serp motor and PAS if needed is straight forward as is the change over from flapper to hotwire in terms of the loom is also relatively straight forward. So you should end up with something close to 280-300 BHp with 315 ft lbs of the torquey stuff is easy, depending on your budget and how far you want to go.

Turbos and SC are fine but will need fabrication, development and complex setting up plus a smarter ignition system, all of which will give head and heart ache imho but hey!!

This is very true!....The money i have spent out chasing BHP in the form of a blower i could of probably had a ford 302 5.0ltr fitted..Or bought a blown V8..(Cheddar's wedge)...Or..banghead...Im just too far into commitment now to turn back..Why didnt i listen.....weeping

I would look to go down the bigger engine route. You can pick up good second hand 5.0 litres for a lot less than a rebuild of yours and a supercharger with a lot more reliability as well.

Agree with the "no substitute for cubes" philosophy but also "a quart won't go into a pint pot".

5.2l with the RV8 is the limit. However my 4l with 6psi of boost is equivalent to 5.7l.

So in some ways the blower makes a lot of sense.
