I use federal rsr's mate, work great on track and seem good on road, not done major miles on the road but everyone I speak to say they are better in the wet than r888 tyres. Fraction if the price too, just need my eagle f1s to wear out in the front so I can swap them also!

Just done a TD at Cadwell, where I kept up with a 4.5 Cerbera on 888s in my Chimaera on 888s. Grip was awesome, even the instructor was impressed with the handling and braking. Then drove home on them through torrential rain. Only bad moment was a bit of aqua planing when the heavens opened and there was standing water, and any tyre on my car would have done that. Most impressed, as I am down to 2.2mm of tread.

Can you tell me what sizes you went for ? some of the track day tyres seem a lot wider .. A guy today had R888`s 205 on the front and 225 on the rears ,they looked very wide .

Which shows a lot is down to the driver. I've out paced griffs, tuscans, cerbs amongst other non tvrs which my little chim should not be faster than.

Not sure what size daz, got 17's on the rear, can check tomorrow

Thanks Rib! Kind words, but a good part of it was also down to the track. The Cerb was able to get away from me slightly on the straights, but Cadwell has a lot of bends, and the chimaera is more nimble. Or perhaps it was my good driving!?
My tyres are 215 and 235 Daz. Even wider. I did notice a slight catching sound from the front when I had a passenger on board. It only happened in the compression on Park Straight.

Thanks Anthony , I asked RIB because he has the RSRs ,they may be different in size to the R888`s

Haven't looked at sizes available yet as the Eagles have a fair bit of life in them, all I know is that they have no grip compared to the rsr's, I have had the old school yoko ao32r's before as well and they were great, replaced by the 48's I think. Can't fault the rsr tyres for the money, nice and progressive too, could get the back end to step out nice and easy if forced without being snappy. But tbh even when I try and get the back end out they tend to just keep gripping or the fronts give way 1st.

Your 235/45/17 have a diameter 643 and a width of 240 so I would say the choices for the front would be

215/40/117 diameter 603 width 222 or 215/45/17 diameter 625 width 219 .

So which ones ? scratchchin

Daz, it may not help, but my SP12 and 888 setup you saw yesterday uses 18 inch wheels on the rear, 235/40/18, which works out at the same diameter as Rib's 235/45/17s.
My fronts are 215/45/17., one of the choices you listed.

Not my choice. These are what Chimjunkie (Jon) chose for his car - he also races Lotuses. I bought them off him.
Ok?

Really good. With the new GGP dampers, the feel at Cadwell was excellent. Had a great day, no dramas even though it was the fastest I have been there. Tyres held up really well, helped by setting the camber out by a degree.

Any catching ..Think the 45`s will suit the rears better but not sure if they will catch .

Im thinking 235/45/17 and 215/45/17

That sounds good to me Daz. There was the faintest "fluffy" sound from the front when bottoming out in that compression on the straight that went downhill and then up hill. No marks on the tyres. Only happened when flat out over 100 mph. Not what I would call real catching. No catching at all at the rear.

Maybe the 215/40/17 would be better ,less chance of catching . They may look a little odd, the wall heights will be different by 1 1.2" with the 45`s only 3/4" difference with the 40 profile . The 245/45/17 might be a slightly more comfy ride I can remember the 215.40/17`s being a bit crashy on the road with my last setup .

Would prefer 16"s on the front I can only get 205`s in the RSR`s in that size.

Daz, pick a dry day at the weekend, come over, bolt my 888s on your car and go for a belt. You will soon find out if they catch. My fronts are 215/45 17s

Look on the Cadwell track day thread if you need to remind yourself how they look. There's a pic of my car on there now.

Hmmm, plenty to think about there. Currently running 215-45-16 front & 245-40-17 on the back.
Anyone know what the correct load value should be for these cars?
