... Anyone here kept both?
The Missus is set on a cat for our new house which is fine, we've been renting together for the past few years and can now get one as we're buying our first home.
But I really like the idea of having a pet duck. The house we're getting has a modest sized garden with room for a fish pond and duck house/roost. My main concern is having an adult cat and a duck cohabiting whilst my partner and I our out at work 9-5 during the week. I have quite flexible job which means I can pop in during the day but can it be done successfully?

So long as its a decent size duck then the cat wont be the problem, what will be a problem is mr fox, he will quite easily scale a 8ft fence to get to your duck and if your at work he will have all the time in the world to catch him,
Ducks will trash your garden as well, so if your a keen gardener keep the flower borders fenced off.
Check your house deeds as some will say no farm livestock, and keep rat poison around as they will soon discovery the free supply of food.
Personally I love call ducks but they are tiny and easy dinner to the average cat.

Introduce them early enough & they'll be fine smile

Other cats & foxes may be an issue frown

My cats have never been interested in birds, other than shouting at them through the window!

I have a pond in front of my house with around 50 ducks on sometimes. My cat does not bother with them really and other local cats have tried to spook the ducks sometimes but the ducks can give as good as they get or simply jump into the pond if they can't be bothered retaliating. What is more of a nuisance is fish.Over time people have put fish in the pond and there are now around a hundred or so in there. My cat loves fishing and has a little spot on the bank where he waits to catch them.He caught 5 the other day.

My parent's had 3 Khaki Campbell ducks for 3 years along with 2 cats. We never had any problems, as soon as the ducks were big enough they put the cats in their place.

The mutual agreement was the grass belonged to the ducks and the borders belonged to the cats!
