Following on from a recent post of mine, whats the first thing that you do when you see a Speed Scamera?
I check my mirror, closely followed by my speed...its a natural reaction.
Me too.

Numpty drivers!, I always know what speed I am doing and the speed limit
Well I certainly try. Its not often I'm unsure of the limit. I HATE the way some drivers brake to 30 for the damn things...in a 60!

I overtook a car through a speed camera the other week .. damn driver was doing just under 30mph in a 50mph zone .. I just checked all was safe and pulled out and sailed past at bang on 50mph ..
Further to that, I have done this on my bike to a numpty f
kwit in a micra (yes it was an old person but sterotypes dont exist of course...
) doing 15 in a 30. So I overtook him on the camera bang on 30. numpty thought it was such a wonderful manuvoure that he flashed his lights to thank me
Must admit I do less than 30 for the duration of the lines but normally no less than 25. I don't trust their accuracy and its easier to do that than to get into a whole load of legal wrangling about what speed I was really doing.
I get back up to my cruising speed as quickly as possible after I'm clear of it though...

I'm fairly sure my speedo reads slightly conservative, so I check my speed (adjust if necessary) and make sure it's set at or 1-2mph below the limit.
I don't feel the need to check my mirrors again specifically before slowing, as I'm always aware of what's around me.
But yeah, spotting a camera (on your side) DOES make you check your speed...which is really offputting when you're concentrating on other hazards, like that numpty in the white van in the inside lane who clearly has NO idea you're there.

That's OK then.
Are you a pal of ca092003 by any chance?![]()
Best wishes all,
Dave.
er no, should have used the sarcasm smiley
despite some people professing to knowing exactly what speed they are doing I would love to blind test that theory
It depends what vehicle I'm in.
Van = Not fast enough to accidentally cruise faster than intended, but I still check speed first, then mirror and speed if I have to.
Car = Mirrors, then speed.
Bike = If the camera's on a DC and is front facing, then I knock it down 4 gears and hoist a beauty past it*.
*Actually, I lie like a cheap persian rug. Recently my number plate fell off whilst out riding and I still couldn't bring myself to speed past cameras.
