Thinking of splashing out on the Black 300D from Jessops (now £799 inc lens, CF card, Battery pack).

Just a couple of questions (as I seemed to have confused the trainee on saturday !).

1. Is it compatable with lenses that use the T2 mount? - I have the Centon 500mm Mirror lens, so will need to disable the metering and auto focus etc - can this be done?

2. Does it have the capability of 'second curtain sync' for the flash gun? (I know you can get the flash with this otion - but does the 300D support it?).

Couldn't find the answers on the Canon site - so I thought I'd consult with the all knowing PH comunity.

Cheers Guys!

The silver one is £650 with the 18-55 lens.
Not sure what else comes with it though, butif you were to shop around for accessories it may work out cheaper.

Nope. Even with the hacked firmware update, 2nd sync doesn't work. I got the Sigma 500 flash for it, which has the option, and works a treat.

Question: Why the black one, when it costs more money for the same camera?

So with the Sigma flash it works?

Don't really mind what colour but the black one comes with the battery grip, lens and CF card - did a quick cost and it works out a good deal (I think??).

Did a quick test with the Sigma....worked ok, there's a setting on the flash to set 2nd curtain sync....set a long exposure and move around, then the flash fires at the end and there you go.

As for the grip, it makes a huge difference to have it on the camera....make sure you get a 2nd battery to go with it....but not from jessops ebay from hong kong, £6.99

Does anyone know the answer to the T2 mount question?

(stcking neck out) If the T2 mount is what I think it is - ie a universal one that you use adaptors to fit to anything - then it will disable every auto feature simply by being there! (However if it's Canon bayonet from a Canon T2 or whatever, then I shall disappear! )

It's the universal mount (screw fitting to bayonet). Can the auto features be disabled to allow the camera to be used manually?
The lens is a manual focus fixed apature type (centon 500 mirror lens).

Glad I was right! If your camera has 'M' next to 'P' etc, just use it and presto - Manual
