Cop's shares in scamera firm sparks outrage

Conflict of interest generates call for inquiry

An Australian traffic cop holding of shares in a speed camera company has sparked outrage. The New South Wales Chief Superintendent John Hartley was acting Traffic Services Commander when he reportedly bought shares in Redflex Holdings, which was supplying scameras to the local roads and traffic authority.

Even though Hartley sold the shares when he became aware of a conflict of interest, the local opposition has demanded an independent inquiry. The police said they would investigate the allegations.

The local paper, the Herald Sun Sunday, reports opposition leader Peter Debnam  as saying, "Not only was his purchase of shares in a speed camera company an obvious conflict of interest, but it was not picked up during the selection process for promotion to the most senior highway patrol job in the state."

Apparently, Chief Supt Hartley is on leave.

I think we need to scratch around the UK scamera scene.

Could be interesting. Anyone know a Mail journalist?

I cant wait until you can buy shared in Safety Camera Partnerships Ltd...

Imagine it! A business whose customers get picked by the buisness, forced to buy the product, and if they refuse it they get charged even MORE money!!!!

There is a HOW TO GET ON THE HOUSING MARKET thread over in GG - that'll be the answer. Although I dont think there is a house expensive enough out there to handle all that money...
