Just read in a french paper (so won't bother posting the link) that Porsche are studying the possibility of fitting the Cayenne with the 270 hp hybrid electric/internal combustion engine from the Lexus (Toyota). This will allow them to comply with the increasingly strict environmental laws in the US and in Europe.

Might help reduce the petrol consumption figures aswell...

Surely you're pulling our legs!

I'll tell you what. If Porsche is so stupid to buy and use (more) technology from Japan, they will lose whatever mystique and magic they have left. That's pittiful. The accountant that dreamed up that idea should be fired immediately.

It's bad enough, Porsche is using a Japanese transmission in the Cayenne, having the vehicle built in Bratslavia. The only real thing "Porsche" about it, is the badge on the front. It's a pig, far from the philosophy that made Porsche famous. If they put a Japanese motor in a Porsche, of any kind, Porsche's future is tanked.

You have a real problem with the Cayenne don't you mate !!

Aside from whether it is right or not, the Lexus hybrid technology is very interesting.

The hybrid Lexus RX gives 0-60 in the 7 secs range and around 35-40mpg.

The V6 Lexus RX has 0-60 in the 9 secs range and 20-25mpg..

So the hybrid technology looks very promising indeed.

And as for whether Porsche should use toyota technology or not, well I don't care to be honest.

As long as Porsche is highly profitable they will continue to make great sports cars. Without the Cayenne , Porsche would not be nearly as profitable as it is. If a hybrid Cayenne makes lots of money then great AFAIK - it means they remain independent and carry on making great sportscars...

Right, about as "interesting" as pondering one's navel.
