Is this tyre finished please ?

I very very slowly backed my car into a kerb and have very lightly curbed my rear wheel and torn the outer part of the tyre wall. This is a tear or 'nick' in the tyre wall, not a puncture. Obviously I am concerned as to safety. 300 quid for a tyre isn't the end of the world. Car is a 991 and has done 5000 miles. What should I do ? Any ideas on wheel repair, though it is only v slightly kerbed. Was reversing at less than 2mph. Many thanks Simon

I think it's got a fair bit of 'meat' left on the sidewall. i have to drive it to get it fixed, so not much option (unless I got porsche to recover it on a trailer) - which I did once on a 911 years ago that had a nail in the tyre and had gone flat. shame as its only done 5k. the one with the nail in once had 50 miles on it ! just the luck !
I was gutted to find a 15MM plus wide and deep cut in the side wall of my rear tyre with only 2k of use. Popped down to the tyre centre who had fitted it, they inspected it, told me it was perfectly legal as you couldn't see cord, told me to glue it shut and get on with life. To be honest you could hardly see the repair when done, but I didn't feel that comfortable about it.
MOT tester later that month noticed the repair though, a very close and thorough inspection must have been done ........... and passed it. Ten months on, I'd totally forgotten about it until I read your question. I've done 4k miles on it since, with some very quick driving.
But if you'd asked me 12 months ago, would I drive with a cut in the sidewall, I'm pretty sure my answer would have been no.
EDIT. Just seen the picture of yours, mine wasn't as wide, but it was probs deeper as the rubber could be pulled away. Superglue sealed mine a treat.

just goes to show...the other 911 tyre I bust was a front...hit a kerb avoiding someone who decided they wanted both lanes of a dual carriageway at the same time. hit a high kerb at 45 degree angle at around 60....tyre did the same thing...just goes to show how incredibly strong they are. or in this case...how weak they can be !
you deffo can't see the canvas, and this gash is on a parr with my previous 60mph effort....this evening was not paying attention when reversed in office car park. kissed the kerb, literally doing less than 1mph. must admit it doesn't look bad, but kind of worried what might happen....£300 - versus my two daughters in the car....mmmm, think i'll make an expenses claim for it !
