New wheels for my chim

Hey guys, Im looking at getting some Khan RSR wheels for my car. front 17" with 215/45/17 rear 18" with 235/40/18. Any suggestions before i take the plunge??

have a look at corin dentons profile. He is running 18"s Kahns all round. They look mighty fine

Its the sort of things people put on fords and novas etc...!!! Seriously though, if you look on some peoples profiles they.re are people with 'fox' wheels they are similar to those. quite a plain five spoke wheel. not too blingy!

Afternoon guys, the Kahns on mine are actually 7"x17" with an ET30 offset all round running 215/4517 front and 235/4517 rear tyres. In this configuration they bolt straight on with no modification or catching at all and give the correct ride height. I was strongly advised against putting 18"s on as the handling is really bad, 17" is the limit you want to go for if you like to drive. If the car is just for show or 'pubtalk' then 18"s will fit and look a bit more bling!

To be honest the standard wheels give the best all-round drive but you can still get your arse out faster than George Michael with the 17"s!

Just an observation, but 7" rims are really a bit on the narrow side for 235 tyres.

They actually sit lovely, you get the impression that they would convex the tread surface but no problems.

Not the tread, its the sidewall angle. If the tread is wider than the rim then the tread twists as you apply side load, moving the weight to the outer corner of the tread instead of distributing it evenly. Sometimes the effect is enough to be quite noticeable and you can feel the car hopping sideways under heavy cornering.

Of course I am entitled to the opposite point of view. I have 18"x 8" rears and found that at Bedford the handling was excellent. Have you actually driven any with 18" rims or are just passing on hearsay? Rich...

To be honest I haven't driven on them personally but a friend of mine has 18" on his 450 and he says it's pretty shocking on the road but superb on the track. Horses for courses.

When I swapped my 15"/16"'s for 17"/18" I did an immediate "acid test". On the basis that I would be biased in favour of my new wheels I took my wife for a drive, and we have some pretty crap roads in Berkshire. Her opinion was that the ride quality was not noticeably harsher than previously. It is susceptible to tyre pressure, more so than before, I guess because there is less compliance in the tyre wall and I run 24/26 f/r. I do get a little pissed-off with people jumping on the 17” are ok but 18” are “bling” band-wagon! Rich...
