whoever said on here no oil comes out...mad

OK - not much oil comes out but probably a shot glass worth which is enough when you are lying under the car which isn't that high off the ground and you can't move that fast to get out the way!

The spring I took out was slightly shorter but felt easier to compress. I guess if it compresses inbetween my finger and thumb it is probably significantly weaker that the new one which hardly compresses.

After replacing the spring, fixing my water leaks and topping up the coolant I tried turning the car over tonight to test the oil pressure now my gauge has arrived but soon realised I need a new battery. It's not really a surprise as the car has been standing for over 18 months.

Crank, stop - crank stop, click, click, click, nothing...the battery which has been on charge for the last week and was showing fully charged on the CTEK was down to 10v after a few attempts. I say attempts the starter was only just engaging before giving up on turning the engine.

Hopefully I will be able to pick up a new battery tomorrow and then try again.

A very healthy 77PSI (the pic is looking across the gauge here but straight on it was 77-78):

I don't know what it was pre-spring replacement as the oil pressure gauge is broken in the car and reads 0psi. The last owner assured me it did have pressure and was around 50psi so I guess that was the before reading. I also changed the oil filter and the oil so this may have helped up the pressure.

To be honest I was just glad to see anything. I bought the car on trust as it showed 0psi in the car and was getting worried after changing the spring and cranking it for about 10 seconds still showed 0 on my test gauge. I even undid my test gauge and cranked over once more and the pipe stayed dry - not a good sign.

I then checked the relief spring was seated right, changed the oil filter and changed the oil and fired her up (going for broke). My test gauge flicked up to 80+ PSI over about 2-3 seconds then settled around 77 psi so I was very very happy.

I tried to change mine at the weekend but the nut is solid! I gave it a healthy squirt of WD40 and it still wont budge.

Any tips?

Heating it will be tricky with the position of the nut behind the chassis tube. Mine was very hard to move too but I bought a good quality spanner and extended it with another spanner to get more leverage. Then gently applied more and more pressure until the nut gave. Once the initial movement loosens the nut it actually turns very easily with just your fingers.

If you still can't move it even with a bar over the spanner/2nd spanner attached to give more leverage then I would think about heat/other solutions.
