Whats the point of the fine point on a wheel balancer when it eventually asks you for 2 grams on one side.....you can't get 2 grams of a weight so whats the point.

Obviously in normal mode in the above situation it would end with OK .

Cut a 5g in half, use the smaller size.

Close enough wink

And, the better balancers run across the span of the width so the small grams can be placed with great accuracy.

This is why most balancers are set to round up instead.

I think it's the other way around.

It rounds down, so if it wanted another 2g in fine mode, in normal mode it would clear this as ok!

I suppose it depends on which way you look at it. Various machines I have seen have a threshold of 5g instead of absolute zero which tends to resolve the problem.

You have to be wary of the unscupulous fitters ones that set it higher as it saves them money on balance weights!

Witnessed this first hand when I was an apprentice. The experienced blokes set it to ignore anything less than 5g. This will be why the last time I have tyres fitted I had to go back 3 times to get rid of the vibrations.

Or the fitters who simply keep loading the weights around the rim whenever the machine asks, counter-balancing the hell out of the rim and creating a problem that wasn't there.

The problem is in fine mode the machine asks for 2g.

Who sells 2g weights? No one, only 2.5 for bikes!

But on fine mode, when the machine asks for two grams, you can move the existing weights towards the requested two grams, to get a real zero, rather than an out of balance wheel
