The surely there would be no such thing as appeals, and also nobody would ever win them?

Judge Dredd would just say that the law really is the law and those that get off are only off on a technicality; they're really guilty.

If the process is corrupted, wrong information / data used, subsequent and very relevant information later comes to light, the law itself acknowledges an error ...

he would say "I am the law."
then carry out sentence with out right to appeal.

It is a question of whether the correct application of the Law has been made that gives rise to appeals etc.

Acts of Parliament are just words, open to interpretation by people who can play on words, or play on the process.

That's dead right Swilly.
When you study the statutes so many of them are very philosophically sound and designed to protect and implement justice.
It's the application of them, on far too many occasions by the wrong people, that cause the problems and make the Appeal Court a vital safety valve.
