Hi All

A month ago I started getting a bit of a twinge above my left glute (about where my belt goes) after deadlifting. For some weeks I'd had a twinge in my quad on the same side. So I have stopped lifting heavy weights for a couple of weeks, however the discomfort is becoming more frequent.

I have still been doing light straight leg deads and they cause no pain. I have also been jogging a fair bit.

The discomfort can be brought on by sitting or standing badly. If I stand on my heel on that side a burning sensation builds until I move.

The discomfort seems deep inside, almost like an internal organ playing up. I feel it at the top of the glute / bottom of the back on the left.

Any guessed what this is please, or is it a trip to the physio?

It sounds like what I had and probably is from DLing as I think mine was.

Mine was sorted by a single physio massage in the area - for me it felt like a 'sticking' and burning sensation. I could stretch it out.

Hip flexar? Does it hurt when you squat?

No. If I stand and roll my hips forward to increase the lower curve of my spine, I can feel it above my left glute.

In the above diagram the area of discomfort is the junction of the top of the glute, the back and (I think it's called) the rear oblique.

May well be sciatica. It's brought on by poor form/overuse. Very common esp. with dlifts, lpress and squats.

Rest for a week and try not to antagonise it. Heat pads and ibuprofen for 48 hrs seem to help.
