Yeah, I know the car work gave me was a Skoda Yeti but that's all I know.

In the old days if I was looking a Ford I could tell you the engine size with 1.1, 1.3, 1.6, 2.0 or 3.0 stuck on the front wings and the spec with L, GL, S or Ghia on the bootlid. As a child car geek I could have told you what model most cars were by their seat trim. If I was in a BMW 320 I knew I was in a petrol six cylinder 2 litre and so I could go on. Today all I can tell you is I was driving a Skoda Yeti and that's it.

Gimme some clues?

Only model badged up is the 1.6 Tdi 105 Greenline. This helpfully enough says Greenline on the grill and wings.

Other than that did it say 4x4 on the gear knob? If not it's a two wheel drive.

Whisper quiet at idle? That'll be one of the TSI petrol engines. Either the 1.4 or more likely the 105 1.2.

Alloys? Aircon or climate? Leather or cloth?

Let's play guess the Yeti!!

Leather, seats (poss some form of mock leather?), leather steering wheel, diesel, 5spd box, trip computer, diesel, roofbars and no signs saying it was a 4x4 so I'm assuming it was two wheel drive.

Aspirational innit.

Lots money to be made from selling xenons, lowered suspension, and privacy glass to make a car look "badass", but the effect is undermined if there's a plastichrome badge on the back telling everyone you went for the smallest engine.

German cars are still pretty easy to differentiate, if you know what you are looking for. Most BMW/Audi fanboys would be able to tell a basic model from an SE from an M-sport or S-line pretty easily from the size/design of the wheels, the ride height, and the bodykit.

I thank you!..............316s were fours. 320s, and 323s were sixes. All were petrols, the last two digits of their name denoted their engine displacement, they were bhes in the wet requiring skilled drivers to keep them on the straight and narrow, overengineered and underequipped and for all that far superior to the BMs of today.

Leather seats means it's an Elegance spec (assuming no specification upgrades on a lower model).
5 speed box and diesel means you had the 110 hp variant of the 2.0 tdi.

So today TBH, you were driving a Skoda Yeti 2.0TDI 110 Elegance 2wd. HTH :-)

Yup, my 1980 320 was a 6 with a fairly large carb.

It was also quite lively in the wet, so much so that I lost the back on a roundabout on the first day I had it and only through luck stopped without a scenery interface.
Bloody good laugh though.

Isn't there a website where you can feed in a reg number and find out what model a car is. I can get the reg off the Yeti in the company carpark tomorrow.

If it is the model you say it is I'll be a bit disappointed. Left it thinking "bloody good car that". Now I know it costs £20,500 plus any extras I'm now thinking "so it bloody should be".

Webuyanycar will tell you. Takes two secs, just don't bother with the rest of the form.

Watch out for "Sold Company Car By Accident Now Facing A Disciplinary Hearing" on the "Jobs And Employment Matters" section of the forum.

Currently driving a hire car. It has zero feedback through the massively overboosted controls, awful ergonomics, and sounds sufficiently like a diesel that I actually opened the fuel filler to see if the staff had made a mistake when they said petrol. The seats are saggy support-free rubbish and the menus are so poorly designed it took me three days to figure out how to save a radio preset. Oh, and its got less than 1500 miles on the clock.

Guesses please? the nationality should be easy enough smile

The e46 BMW 320i and 323i were petrol sixes, but...
Whilst the M52TUB20 engine in the 320i was a 2.0, the M54B22 from 2000 was a 2.2
Also the 323 used the M52TUB25 which is a 2.5.

It's all terribly confusing.
