A few rebuild questions.
Discussion
I need to pick your collective brains as I’ve not tried putting the engine back before, & there are a couple of things I’ve not got photos of when I stripped it & have forgotten
1: Is it best to put the thinner hard water pipes in that connect to the heater flexible hoses before putting the engine back in? I guess getting them connected & sealed through the footwell would be much easier without the engine in the way, but I can see them getting in the way putting the engine back in with the exhausts manifolds on.
2: Am I right in thinking the engine & gearbox will go in together with the exhaust manifolds attached?
3: Where the heck did I take the earth strap that’s sat on the right hand side of the top of the tank from?
That pic was taken just after I’d moved the tank & taken the body bolts out, so I guess one end was attached where the others are earthed (or grounded?) on the left upper body bolt, but it’s the other end I can’t find a home for, one of the tank bolts? Or maybe it’s not from the Cerb at all, think I lost one of those a while ago...
4: Lastly (for now!) have I got this engine mount on the correct side, pointing the right way?

Your in luck as I fitted mine back in weeks ago so still all fresh in my mind

1. I never removed mine so I would make sure there in place first.
2. Yes the all go in as one bit of a FAFF but it does slot back in.
3. Can't help there never pulled the tank out sorry.
4. Yes that mount is correct.

Nice one thanks

Anyone else help with that earth strap then?
3: Where the heck did I take the earth strap that’s sat on the right hand side of the top of the tank from?
Just a quick look on mine And it drops behind the tank And bends towards the middle Of the tank I've remove the Helmet from inside the car And there is no signs of it So there must be something behind the middle of the tank

Ah, so where does the top bit that you can see connect to?Just a quick look on mine And it drops behind the tank And bends towards the middle Of the tank I've remove the Helmet from inside the car And there is no signs of it So there must be something behind the middle of the tank
You can get at the carbon can bolts (and those for the fuel filter) by removing the helmet holder.
Reach in and you can feel them.
IIRC the earth lead bolts to the chassis behind the tank.
I think there are a couple of bolts that go into the ends of the chassis rails and the strap is fastened to one of them.
Found a piccie of the earth strap. It bolts through the body into the chassis

Ah, so where does the top bit that you can see connect to?
All three straps in the picture Connect to the fuel tank strap And the third strap Goes behind the Fuel tank To the chassis.

Ah thanks every one, sounds like it’s just the rear part of the loom & the tank that are connected to the rear chassis bolts, just in slightly varying TVR ways! I already had the rear loom connected directly to those bolts so the strap was perplexing me.
In mikesr’s pic there is clearly a witness mark from the earth strap on the O/S upper chassis bolt, mine didn’t have one, so it must have been to the left one.
I’ve been have immense fun trying to get all the chassis bolts done up on my own in a tiny single garage where I can just get one door slightly open...
Wish I’d read my own guide about the bolts for the carbon canister being easier to get at with the rear seat belt real unbolted, before spending ages struggling to get their bolts to go back down through the body & rear bracing. In the end I had to file a couple of threads off the ends of the seat belt bolts in the end to get them to go in.

Question back at you sir please, how much of a hassle is it to remove the fuel tank? I need to make new carbon can brackets but need in behind the tank to remove the old ones?
Here is an section of my body off guide: Luckyone said:
12: Clamp the fat pipe that feeds the pump, disconnect it from the pump & drain the tank, stopping the flow of fuel with the clamp to empty the container if necessary. The fuel tank then needs its clamps all undoing & moving out of the way to get to the bolt heads that are hidden under it. If you are careful the carpet can be peeled away from under the tank to get at the bolt heads in the tank straps. I didn’t remove the tank, just loosened the filler pipe & rotated it about that point. More easily seen along with chassis bolts here:

13: I found I had to take the fuel filter & carbon canister (big back thing next to the filter) out to get to the connection between the hard fuel pipe & the flexible. The bolts that hold the filter & canister come out behind the rear seat backs, you can get to these after removing the helmet holder. Access will be easier still if you have already removed the rear seat belt reels. The wiring to the carbon canister, the fuel pump & the speed sensor all need their tie wraps cutting & removing from the chassis, to be left to hang from the body. I removed the fuel pump also at this point, but you don’t have to.
If you are just moving the tank you don’t need to drain it, just remove the return line from the top O/F. But as mike said you get at the bolts from inside the car, it’s fun trying to do it on your own! 13: I found I had to take the fuel filter & carbon canister (big back thing next to the filter) out to get to the connection between the hard fuel pipe & the flexible.
