I have been blamed by someone for causing damage to his vehicle in a car park. Its not really clear at the moment who's fault it is but either way I don't think I'll be needing to claim on my car.

If he puts in a claim against me (he's taken my reg number) how would it affect my insurance? Do I have to pay my excess? Do I loose my no claims bonus? My policy is up for renewal soon so a bit worried this is going to cost me silly amounts...

I've never been in this sort of situation before so don't really understand how it all works!

You don't pay excess on his claim, only if you claim for your own damage.

Your insurance company will pay for his repairs and reduce your NCD at the next renewal - they typically knock you back two years for the first claim.
