996 GT3 intermittent alternator failure

I've been having a few issues with the alternator on my GT3 today.

Drove the car yesterday and all was fine, started this morning with no issues, drove 50 miles again without issue but shortly after the car wouldn't start. Rac came out at jump started it started off showing 13volts on the guage but then dropped to 10.

Didn't look like it was going to make it home so organised recovery, jumped again and left running whilst we loaded it, once home started fine and seams to constantly show 13volts on the guage.

First thoughts are that the alternator is on its way out but thought I'd ask if there was anything else worth checking or an other common issues

very uncommon for it to be the alternator tbh... more inclined to be your battery at fault at this time of year mate?

I'll have a look at that first, I'd rather it was the battery as its only a year old and still in warranty

Euro Car Parts Bosch or Exide job done....

Easy job to get he alternator regulator checked out to though just to make sure.

There can also be an issue with the ignition switch. I had this with a previous 996 GT3 that would not start intermittently.
I recall changing the battery first before the ignition switch was diagnosed.

The rectifier / control unit on the back of my 996RS alternator shat itself when I had the car. Took it to Bosch service in Slough and £45 later it was sorted

Could be alternator, but cheap to repair as its just the plug in voltage regulator on rear, less than £50 can be DIY if you're garage type. Change mine every couple years just for hell of it. Unlikely to be battery if its couple years old.

Could be ign switch, again relatively easy DIY and cheap part.
