Hi

A flat battery again today. An intermittent problem with the battery going flat overnight on my 2006 Vantage. I put a new battery in last April but it has gone flat on me 3 times since then all overnight.

Any suggestions why this would happen? When AA did the battery drain test it appears there was nothing wrong or draining it.

As I say its an intermittent issue. How would a dealer start to work out what happening? Reluctant to have it sat at dealer clocking up an hourly rate.

Any advice would be great.

Kind Regards
ScottK

There have been a range of battery drain issues over the years and specifically from the door modules on 2006 cars, although there are other potential causes ( Bluetooth, tracker etc module etc). I would also check if there is any non-standard equipment fitted as this is a common cause of problems. Best book it in .... Meantime buy a battery conditioner wink

Is the battery conditioner the same thing as a battery charger?

Yes it is. It conditions and charges the battery. I paid about £65 for mine on ebay. However they are over £150 new.

Here is one that will fit your car. Make sure you have the cigarette lighter input in your boot.

This should do the trick and is a trickle charger.

How often do you use the car and when you do for how long, just short journeys of for something longer.
There will be a constant drain on the battery due to alarm systems etc. so if the car is not used frequently this can be enough to drain the battery over a period of time.

If you are going to get a battery tender I wouldn’t bother with the official Aston Martin one, in my opinion its way over priced and technology has moved on since they first manufactured them.

I’m currently using a couple of these at the moment on my various cars and they seem to work well.

I use the car about three times a week now and do longish trips (30-40 miles).

Odd as it started doing it when I was doing 40 miles in it everyday, so it tells me that its not because of lack of use.

As its intermittent I reckon it'll be hard to diagnose it.

No, no! Dont buy an official Aston Martin one - all AM does is take one made by CTEK, put a badge on them (and mark the price up 5x!)

Do you have a volt meter, if so I would start with a few basic checks, ie battery voltage with everything off, this should be about 12.6 volts then check again with the engine running, should be about 14.5v.
