Not that high at all for an older diesel. I've driven a W124 with more miles. On the original engine and drove perfectly alright, oil pressure right up to 3.

Presumably they are nearly all ex-taxis whether listed as such or not - I recall from trip to Cologne last year that cream is the default colour. You might question however what life is left in them if a cabbie has decided enough is enough!

to sell a ex-taxi in Germany (or a hire car) it must be declared as such

there are gazillions of million km merc taxis out there, nothing unusual at all

and when they're finished they'll go to africa for a few more miles

'elfenbein' (ivory) is indeed the usual colour, but some areas allow black nowadays, and even then the ivory is usually only a wrap

fair point - now you mention it I do remember seeing plenty of Merc taxis in Gambia - they are presumably painted green on arrival and most represent the better end of the Gambian taxi spectrum condition-wise - which isn't actually saying very much but credit where its due, they manage to keep them going somehow!

there are ships go over to africa regularly, loaded with Mercs and Japanese cars, some cars get stripped for parts on deck then tipped over board

almost every decent sized city in Germany will have a dozen 'auto-export' car dealers, for Africa or the 'stans
