Quite fancy a long blast in the Merc before the winter sets in. This would be the proposed route (well, close enough anyway).

Head to Glasgow Friday night after work. Hotel, Inn or my folks if available! PUB!!
Head out early Saturday for a good drive around the highlands to Inverness.
Lunch on the route and then more driving before stopping for evening rest at a nice Inn or B&B.
Up early sunday and drive south on a different route.

Anyone fancy it? Probably looking at 1500 miles or there abouts.

if i had a suitable car i'd be more than up for this....well, the E38 is more than suitable for the trip up, but not for whilst there hehe

if you fancy a co-pilot who'd be happy to split fuel costs, however hehe

not sure if i can do next weekend, i work alternate saturdays and am in next saturday and don't think i could get it off because i've already got quite a few patients booked in...

i know some cracking roads around there, i used to stay in aviemore for a couple of weeks every year for around 5-6 years. a few you must do if you end up going are the A939 (simply epic)

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Unknown+road&...

The B970 leading to it from aviemore is a smaller road but also a good laugh

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=B970&dadd...

and this is a corker as well

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=A938&dadd...

though to be honest, around that area you barely need to look for any good roads, there are so many around.

I work shifts, so I do work weekends sometimes. But provisionally, yes, I am up for it.

Maybe

Would depend on timing and weather. I sometimes work weekends too.

Could see if Boyd from Highland Caterham Hire wants to drop by to say hi whilst we're up in Inverness. Would be good to catch up with him.

Right then. Looks like we could make a tour of it. Dan, will the Tiv make it all the way round the route?

How rude! I'm sure there's a smilie or wink missing from that statement! wink

I fell the need for a road trip at the moment and this looks great, but weekends right now are pretty full til December - but I'll keep an eye on his just in case.

The more the merrier. Shall I start looking at hotel or b&b prices?

Can't we all just bed down at your folks? hehe

The way these things go there will probably only be 70 or so mouths for bacon butties in the morning biggrin

Definitely up for this Ed. I love the Highlands and I've done loads of touring up there. Well worth the effort.

For those interested, how does the weekend of the 18th/19th/20th October sound? Still enough daylight to be enjoyable and very little frost on the roads.

Ive got accom in mind for us on the Friday night, just got to work out where to stay on the Saturday night.

Only good for a weekend drive! Nothing to be gained by living within its borders.

18/19/20 October works for me.
What about a Friday night get together (between Southampton & Bournemouth) to look at routes etc. I have done several driving tours and can suggest some great roads. As, no doubt others can too?

Yeah, maybe down the Empress as we all know where it is.
