Flatemate's requirement, a people carrier that have room or seats that folds down to sleep for 2 people. Must be diesel, reliable, easy to get parts in Europe and cost around £3000, he has looked at Toyota Previa and some whatever car/van call Bongo, and I'm quite stumped to give any suggestions as I have never really looked into that sort of things before, over to you pistonheads.

To be a true hippy and really green you need to take life span of the vehicle into account. Why so you think PH slags off the Prius with is horrid carbon & chemical foot print.

So old converted transit?

Hippy? VW van.

Then drive to and fro to the West Country infuriatingly slowly, with a faint smirk playing on your lips.

Glad to help.

Then watch the smugness fade away as you break down for the 4th time that afternoon

I looked into this myself due to exorbitant insurance costs on a camper for someone of my bountiful youth, ended up with - Most LWB 4x4s - ie. Pajero, Defender/Series Landy, Iveco/LDV Convoy Minibus.

Also looked at some of the more militarised vehicles - Take a look at the Gaz 66(It's entirely impractical and most were built without the facility to perform an oil change) but they look rather formidable.

There are also a lot of horse carriers that are past the shiny standards expected by horse owners, however some of them stink of st, although if he is a true hippy that wont be an issue.

In the end we decided the best vehicle was........ A Mitsibushi Delica, 2.8 TD engine, 4 wheel drive Pajero platform, and a huuuge interior space with seating for seven, fold flat seats and a decent parts supply.
