Been on my wish list for a while, also considered 944 s2 and turbo

have had alot of unusual cars in the past, i love lightweight RWD cars. the porsche is a bit of a departure from what im used to. By chance i came across this really well cared for 968cs, owned previously by a well know 968 enthusiast. just picked it up today

first impressions.. it feels like a new car. very tight. it has m030 suspension, no LSD. Dont find it rides too hard at all for a sports car. Steering weight is perfect, maybe a tad heavy. love the simple interior and recaros

nothing much happens below 4k rpm, but is very easy to drive. after 4k it really pulls well, only thing is the exhaust note is far too sedate for my liking!

overall, im very happy so far... i cant see myself changing much, but maybe chip, lsd, and aftermarket exhaust in future!

Looks great.

There's a sub forum especially for the 924/944/968 on the Tipec forum. There's lots of discussion over the best chip (Promax and JMG seem to be popular) for your car. 255bhp seems to be the best you can expect. Also plenty on there about the exhaust options if you want to make it louder.

Enjoy the car. I'm sure it'll hold it's value and then some if you keep it in good order.

I had the M030 on mine with LSD and it wasn't as hard as my Wife's 535D Msport! I used it as an everyday car and did 10,000 miles in 6 months

I had the Janspeed exhaust on mine which wasn't chavvy at the bottom end - just a nice burble, but had a lovely rasp when the variocam kicked in at 4k, it was civilised in the cruise too.

A friend had one with another aftermarket exhaust on (hayward & Scott) and it was just too much, so he swapped it for a stock one

I fitted the janspeed to my CS, sounded a whole lot better, as another poster stated, not chavy at all.
Be careful what you buy though, janspeed did sell it in different parts, these were not be same as buying the complete system (which if memory serves) was from the cat back.
Anyway Hartech will know, I bought mine from them

The 968CS is a fantastic car - handles beautifully and not too extreme. Have had mine for close to 9 years. It was my daily driver and I enjoyed every minute. Only just retired the car to have it refreshed/restored.

On a hot summer's day the lack of air conditioning may be the only downside, but that is minor when compared to the thrills.

Seems like you have got yourself a very nice example.

Enjoy!

Congrats ... The CS was my first pork too and what a wonderful way to get onto the marque.

I put a decat pipe on mine which helped with the noise. SMF made a nice difference top. Enjoy.

Congrats on the car - I've had a couple of 968's and have a soft spot for them. You mention not a lot happens until 4000 rpm? Might be worth getting your cam timing checked out as the 968 has a fairly linear torque curve and good low down performance. I've personally changed cams/chains/tensioner pads/belts in several 944S/S2/968 cars over the years and they are fairly sensitive to cam timing.

Nice car to get, looks good.
If you really want to get a good feel for the handling, I recommend taking it to the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone if you get a chance.
Mine really came alive on the smooth track there, felt much better than on the road, it's also M30.

thanks for the comments

drove it to goodwood on sunday, its just a nice place to be, and the build quality feels great, and everything just works (even the digi clock)

it does pull well, but my comment earlier referred to the variocam kicking in, and its quite noticeable. One of the reasons i went with this example is it has had a top-end overhaul, including new camshafts, all belts etc, and feels better than others i drove. But i still think it would be good to do a chip, and exhaust

its a perfect mix of useable, classic looks, and sporty without being an out and out racer (what im used to). If it had alot more power it wouldnt be as useable or fun, and i often wonder why do some modern cars need 400 bhp + ? Even one 944t i drove was abit too much of a handful to really enjoy on the road

is it wrong im thinking of painting the wheels Red.....!?

Yes it is wrong to paint the wheels red. It looks lovely as-is.

My 944T is at 308bhp and I can spin the wheels for fun in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd all in the dry!

The power amount and delivery means it's a much easier drive - although not as fast wink

Sounds like it's time for better tyres.

That's a tough one, I think darker wheels than the body look good, mine was Red with Black:

and a mate had a white with Blue CS sticker and wheels and that looked great (as does white and red) but with Black and Red, I am just not so sure, here is one I found on t'interweb:

It would probably grow on me

You can also pull out the seat inserts, they are held in with velcro.

Ideal for trackdays, when you're wearing a hat. As is opening the sunroof, if you've got one.
