A75/a76 or up the M74 to Glasgow & round? Doing the trip later tonight so traffic should be quiet (?)

No need to go all the way up to Glasgow, M74 --> Junction 12, A70 through Douglas, Muirkirk etc...

Beware of the odd wandering sheep wink

If you do the A75/A76 it will add maybe 20 mins to your journey.

No traffic to worry about at any time of day.

I normally go M74 then take A71 across to Kilmarnock and down the A77. Not sure it's the quickest route across thou.

Yep, A70 through Douglas is the quickest, some nice wee bits of road in amongst it for fun if you're in the mood.

Nope, adds maybe 25 mins.

I have been doing a similar journey for years now (Nearly bloody 16 in fact!)and have tried all sorts of different routes.

I would come off the M74 at the Raith interchange look for signs saying A724 East Kilbride follow expressway to East Kilbride, you can go one of two ways either follow signs for Stewartfield then look for sings that say Centre one tax office then beyond the tax office is a roundabout go staright through this an under the underpass & you should be on the A77(M) look for signs saying Ayr Troon ect but be aware there are multiple roundabouts on this route whisle travelling through East Kilbride.

The second route you could also take is when the road splits in two at the top of the EK expressway is to keep to the nearside lane this would take you via the Whirlies on approach to said roundabout keep to middle lane at lights look for signs that say Hairmyres Hospital, Westwood, West Mains ect follow signs for Hairmyres this road should take you to a roundabout with smnall retail park facing you Mcdonalds facing you at the roundabout, at roundabout turn Right and follow signs for Centre one tax office sliproad for A77(M) is about quarter to half a mile down this road (follow signs for the tax office Eaglesham ect) on sliproad keep left & at the bottom turn left at the junction you are now on A77(M) then follow signs for Ayy, Troon, Prestwick but be aware of average speed camera's on this road which is a 50 I think.

Thanks, didn't spot that way, google maps has it as a minor road. Will give it a go, won't be a rapid trip, going in my Jeep
