Don't forget the poor sods he killed through reckless flying.
Have you never made a mistake in you life?R.I.P. one of the greats.
A terrible shame and totally unnecessary.

He killed people by being reckless. I say this as someone who flies for a living and knew him through aviation. A great driver, but I'm afraid his legacy is hugely tarnished in my eyes.
A terrible shame and totally unnecessary.
Yes but they soon got rid and started using Imprezas. The rest they say is history. A terrible shame and totally unnecessary.

This! Its a shame we never got to see either of them go up against Loeb. Would have been an amazing few years of WRC
McRae was Loebs teammate in 2003, when Citroen won the manufacturers title. Loeb finished second overall and McRae 7th I am afraid. I don't think it would have been too much of a contest in the future as one star was on the wane as another was ascendent. He was always an icon of my childhood, and that cannot be taken away. However, as others have said, the nature of his death will always colour the memory for me.
Ah what can you say about him, he was fantastic to watch but always an accident waiting to happen. His driving style contributed to this, he was so wild looking at the wheel when compared to say Loeb who very rarely looked out of shape. The 1997 Impreza on the Monte is one of my all time fave cars. It was a terrible shame the way he died in that accident for both him and those misfortunes that were also killed.
