Which gearbox modes do you use?

For me, S is too 'revvy' so I'm 95% in 'C' mode, with occasional use of the paddles in 'M' when I'm in the mood.

Just wondered what everyone else uses?

C mode, unless traffic is crap and then i use S. M in the 7-GTronic is too delayed for me.

M provides the fastest gearchange of all the modes.

Its the delay between pulling the paddle and it actually changing that annoys, not the speed of change itself. If the C63 had the M5s SMGIII box i'd be a happy man.

Does it actually change gear faster? I assumed the gearchange speed was the same in all modes, just when it changed gear varied.

M 90% of the time. Just prefer to change and hold gear as and when I want, not when the software thinks I want.

I'll look out for that.

M 90% of the time. I use C when I am in heavy traffic to take advantage of Stop/Start

When your in C or S what the deal with using the paddles, say if I was going for an overtake, I can pop it down a gear with the paddle and will it just take over again if I don't change up?

If you manually select a gear whilst in C, S or S+ then it holds that gear till either a downchange is required or till it changes up at the limiter. Alternatively if you upshift to seventh, then it goes back to drive. A quicker way of doing this is to hold the RH paddle which'll put it straight back to D.

Not in my car. If I pull the down paddle in eitther auto program it will shift down one gear and then use that as the highest gear. So if in 6 and I click down it will drop to fifth and then carry on being auto with 5 as the top gear.

If I pull + in auto then it will stay in auto but shift up a gear.

If I hold + it goes back to D.

Depends on the model.

On some cars the S is sport and hold onto the revs longer.

On other models S is standard and simply uses first gear where as C is comfort and pulls away in 2nd, that is the only difference.

M for me at all times unless I am commuting in a traffic jam or taking the kids to school then it is C.

For pressing on I use M as I really do not like the full auto modes - only upside for me on S+ is that I keep hitting the rev limiter at the moment in M mode as I get used to the gearbox. It's a combination of slow gear change - i.e you pull lever takes a couple of seconds to change compared to m3 DCT and the car just pulls all the way to the limiter.

C to warm up ( there can be some uncomfortable 'whump' from the gearbox when using M from cold) and then just M. Don't really like autos (and really dislike kick down) but the AMG manual setting gives a decent amount of control.

For though using M when they say they are "pressing on". Do you not find S+ much much quicker for downshifts than M? I.e in M going from 6th to 4th takes ages as you have to go through 5th but in S+ it seems to drop directly from 6th to 4th (although I'm sure it very briefly goes through 5th)

If you hold down the paddle you'll skip 5th.
