Why don't you save yourself the bother and fit an electric PAS pump i.e Citroen Saxo Vauxhall Astra etc

This may sound daft but I'm starting to want an original pre-serp, especially a 430BV. I would be very tempted to leave well alone. ( i completely understand the want for ps though). Just my thoughts.

I've done it, not for PAS though..

Front Cover + ancilliaries (water pump, alt)

Balancer + harmonic damper + crank pulley (I made up all my own using fluid damper as a basis)

Crank needs keyway lengthening.

Dont do it, the power steering/non power steering debate will fire up shortly. However our 430s are rare and ones in original condition are even rarer. Mine is a barsteward in a car park but otherwise is OK when driving without power steering.

The quick fire humour on here is toi be commended.

That's all I got.

Oh, my pal Wadsapple had his preserp JE 5.2 converted to serp a few years ago, PM him for a cost shock!

When were the PAS models introduced? Or, was it always an option? Can you get later models ('97+) without PAS?

I would rather purchase a Chim without than have constant problems with leaks, which I've read about.

Always had possibility for PAS ~ there are pre-serps with the rover PAS pumps (thats what the 'spare' groove in the crank pulley was used for).

Leaks are no more frequent then on any other 15 year old car.

If you have the choice, go PS, they are so much nicer to drive.

And how do you find it? I'm sure you'll need to give it a bit more when parking, but I can live with that. How is it when on the move?

Personally I dont mind it, but will admit to it being heavy to park, it's a daily driver so it can't be that bad and you get used to rolling the wheels and steering (I'm old enough to remember how to do this from when most cars didn't have PAS).
When your on the move there's no problems at all.
