I'm thinking of buying some 2nd hand wheels to put winter tires on however I'm not sure the 16" will fit or not. I know the C200 and C220 Elegance models come with 16" rims but that the C250 have 17's is this because they have bigger calipers? I've tried looking at the clearance and it looks like it might be tight at one spot.

I had the 18 inch Amg wheels on my 2012 c250 cdi sport from the factory but picked up a nice Set of 17'' amg wheels for the c class on the bay. I had 225x45x17 snow tyres on my golf gt tdi and these fitted the rims perfectly (I know the backs are meant to be wider but these look fine when on as the tyre just spreads to fill the 8.5 inch rim).

Completely changed its handling and I have driven it around so called 4x4 cars in the snow going up hill. They fit over the calipers fine and there are loads for sale.

The car also came with these as standard so they look pretty good. I put them on in first weekend of Nov and take off and put my summer wheels back on for first week in April.

I had a similar issue my C350. There is a min size due to the brakes but I think you're OK as min for a C250 is 7 J x16 H2 ET43 205/55 R 16.

I have 17" on my E250 E class and my old 16" wheels and tyres fit from my 07 E220.

All of this is set out in the manual and the online manual under wheels, wheel and tyre combinations.

The smallest wheels you can fit to a C250 CDI are 7J x 16 ET 43 with a 205/55 R 16 91 V tyre. You can fit these all round.

At my tyres.co.uk a set of steels rims in the appropriate size with goodyear winter tyres in the appropriate spec will cost you £650.

V6 engined cars call for 17" rims and the V8 calls for 18" minimum.
