Anyone got any comments about Garage door companies. I need to replace or repair a couple of 10+ (ish) year old electric roller shutters that don't work any longer.

I am in Berkshire and am looking for a reasonably local company that can either:
1. Try and fix the existing doors (probably new motors) - the doors are old, but go up an down by hand just fine
OR
2. Replace the whole lot

Trolling around the web makes me think double-glazing companies - so I am looking for recommendations for companies that won't try and tuck me up and in doing so waste my time

Regards

Sean

Doorman ( http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?mem... ) did mine. Not sure if he goes that far north, though.

Sadly I don't think he does. I'm in the Chilterns and he doesn't come up here either 'cos I asked him. I am about to order a couple from Access Garage Doors - SWS Compact roller shutter type. The features of my garage preclude either the standard SWS Seceuroglides or the sectional variety.

Unless anyone persuades me otherwise...

How much are you paying out of interest? I'm looking at the compact too as my headroom is restricted.

I posted about this a few months back, just fitted mine myself - piece of piss. Now I know quite how easy it is I'm horrified at the initial quotes I got and had accepted.

I cancelled my order as the chosen company started taking the piss with extra costs. In the end I purser from Auto roll, insulated aluminium door with runners, motor, wiring, infra red beam, light, 3 remotes for £800.

Fitting on my own took a morning. Any builder with help of a lobourer should be able to do it in 2 hours tops.

Going by the prices I've seen for supply only, that works out at about £800 for fitting the two. Got to be worth having a go yourself for that saving. There are full fitting instructions online, looks quite straight forward.

That appears to be quite a lot of door for the money. So much so, it's gone right to the top of my shopping list.

Thanks for the link.

the only trouble is from my experience the autoroll doors are absolute ste.
A sparrows fart will damage it. I have had 3 other types of rollerdoor fitted at other properties over the last 20 years with the only issue i can recall being one of colour fade over several years on the door thats 20 years old..and they ALL still look better than the autoroll door I had fitted under 12 months ago...

still waiting for a response from their customer service guy after 2 weeks since complaining to the installer..

Hi mate,

Before you go any further, I would phone and ask the company 'What tubular motor do you use?', make sure 100% that they supply you with 'Somfy' motor, this specific motor will come with a 5 year guarantee, and I feel it is the most important thing to get right on a roller garage door, as it is the most expensive part to replace, due to where it is located.

I do cover Berkshire if you were interested, as I have supplied and installed quite a few doors for people on Scoobynet, some in Surrey, Watford, Aylesbury Bucks etc.

If you want to look at my website, there are loads of pics of doors I have installed on there (not the usual generic 'library' pics every other company uses smile ).

I also have a Youtube channel as well, Just google 'Murray Garage Doors'

If you need to speak or ask any questions, feel free to.

Hope this helps

I used these guys - http://easyfitgd.co.uk. Made to size, fitted spot on and work well, pretty impressed. Don't know what motor they use TBH but it seems to do the job!

Before you do anything else, have a chat with these people....http://www.amourelle.co.uk/ (based in Woodley, Berkshire)
They've done loads of Pistonheader's garage doors (including mine) and come HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I have no connection with them other than as a customer, but can honestly say that they are one of the most professional companies I have ever dealt with.
HTH.
Cheers,
Jon
