991GT3RS

Hi guys,
I was wondering if any of you here may know when this may be launched, and when first cars may be arriving in to the UK. I asked my local OPC, he reckons very soon but he has no further information.

Also, do you think that the new car will be as desirable as a 997GT3RS gen 2 considering it will be PDK only? I intend to buy an RS as a keeper but trying to decide whether to go for the 997 or wait for the latest car. I realise that the new car may be about £130k therefore £35k approx more than used 997 but as it will be a car that I intend to keep for atleast 5 or even 10 years, I wouldn't mind forking out the extra bit. Main question, is which one to go for?

Only you can decide whether you want a manual or not.

Given that the specs haven't been released for the 991 GT3RS yet, no journalists have driven or reported on the car, and even the basic GT3 has not yet arrived in this country yet, exactly what sort of 'advice' are you expecting at this stage?

I love both manuals and Pdks. I'd imagine the difference bt the 991rs and a 997rs would be the same difference as a 991s and 997s. The question I am asking is which would be the one to go for as a long term perspective? ie more fun? More desirable?

So you're asking the forum to make a subjective call on which car would be more fun - comparing a known quantity with a car that does not yet exist...

Surely the answer is obvious!

I am on list for RS and was expecting it to be at Frankfurt but looks like Porsche had their hands full. It could show up at Geneva given the GT3 delays.

Regardless I have lost interest and realise "fun" for me includes a manual transmission, so I will look back in time for my next engaging experience.

Why not buy a gen 2 RS now and trade up if the new RS looks tempting? I doubt you'd lose much on it if you buy wisely. Personally I think PDK and the 991 are brilliant, for my money though nothing I've driven yet will replace my 997 GT2, I'd have a PDK car alongside it but never instead of.

My OPC says the RS will be out Spring next year.
Sounds about right, the usual delay after the GT3

One suspects that anyone who will be getting a car in the UK already has their letter of intent in with a tame OPC too... ?

Or are there whispers of significantly greater numbers than previous RSs?

You wouldn't have to be a genius to guess that the new car will be more refined and tech advanced. Normally RSs are more hard chore versions of the GT3 version. Now that we have seen 991 GT3 reviews we know that it's a brilliant car but in a very modern way, ie pdk, 4ws, etc...

So going back to my initial question, in say 10 yrs time would the "simplicity" of the 7RS be looked upon as the more rewarding, fun car to drive than the far more tech advanced 991RS? In my mind I think the answer is Yes but on the other hand I feel that I may be missing out on the more modern tech. It's a tough call for a long term keeper...

That sounds like an ideal solution. However, I doubt I would be able to just trade up when I feel like it. RSs normally need to be ordered well in advance, and if I don't get my name down on the list now, I fear not being able to get a car.

5-10 years Lee I would say they'll hold station value wise in the hierarchy, i.e. remain £20k above the older model after 5 years and reducing to a little less over the next 5. BUT there will be a gen2 991 along in 3-4 years time that will date the 991RS and a 992(?) in a further 3-4 years making them both look old. I'd find a mint , manual, RS3.8 and shove it in the garage mate.

Question now is, do I wait till Nov/Dec at off peak time or wait till once the 991rs is launched in the hope that current 997rs owners will be offloading theirs for the trade up version, hence more of choice of used ones on the market.

Values always a little less in the deep mid-winter but they're going up at the moment if anything. I'd hold on til next spring
