To continue the glut of threads about alarms....

Looks like my Meta alarm has packed in (a bit). If it's triggered the indicators flash but the siren doesn't sound. The LED by the stereo head until flashes after disarm to tell me what's happened as usual, and the sensors all seem OK. As a result, I'm guessing that the alarm controls are OK, but the siren itself is dead. As far as I know it's the factory-fit Meta unit, but I'm not sure if this is a single unit or not. When I spoke to HHC about it they advised complete replacement of the alarm system as spares apparently aren't available. The car is an R-reg Chim 500.

Is a complete replacement likely to be needed? If so, does anyone have any advice on alarms - get another Meta or defect to another brand? What's anyone paid for a new alarm?

Finally, I'm splitting my time between Edinburgh and Teeside at the moment. Can anyone recommend someone near one or the other (or even on the way between them) to fit a replacement?

Carl Baker has a great reputation.

Maybe a bit far for you, he's near Petersfield.

I had exactly the same symptoms, Carl fixed it!

Give the guy a call, he has helped people remotely in the past.

446 miles from Edinburgh

Will give him a call to see what he can suggest. If anyone has any idea for someone a couple of hundred miles north of London though...

The siren will have had water ingress. Put your lug'ole down near the front while the siren (should be) sounding. You might hear it, really REALLY faint. Best bet is a new system. I'm saving up having had the same problem. There is a good place on the A64 out of Leeds, their name escapes me right now, but more usefully, try looking up motorbike security specialists near to you - META is big in bikes.

Same happened to mine. Christopher Neils fitted a new sounder for £70.00. A lot cheaper than a new alarm system.
