Hi Chris,

Are you still having trouble sealing your downpipes?

I'm still getting the straight through system made up soon but not for a few weeks yet but I'm hoping this will keep me going until then.....

I tried some stuff called "QUICK STEEL" on mine which sets as hard as metal and has a high temperature tolerance, it can be drilled and tapped (it really is that hard and strong) and it has cured my blows for the time being.

Cheers,
K

quick steel is the modern equivalent of belzona, i have used this to repair a block that suffered a "leg out of bed" on a 36 Litre Cat engine, it is good stuff.

The manifolds to Down pipes are fine I think, there is a leak from somewhere but I can't be bothered to find out where it is. I think it's from Down pipes to exhaust. I think I'll spend Christmass sorting it out.

The silicone worked a treat, I just didn't put it on the other join.

Is the quick steel similar to JB weld?

And here: www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/catalogue/product_detail.asp?CLS=MSPORT&TLGRP=M007&PGRP=MP100&GRP=MP100&PCODE=Q/S1301

This is better for manifolds (high temp) and made by same manufacturer.

Seems a little permenant for my linking at the moment, I may try it when I switch to SS manifolds.

Interesting stuff. The Cargo Thermosteel stuff sounds like it would give you a reliable seal in the exhaust system. Could you use it on cracked manifolds - where they expand/contract depending on the temperature ? I'm pretty sure mine have a blow somewhere (depending on the runnning temperature).

Shame it probably wouldn't have the tensile strength to fix a rusted chassis - suddenly you'd no longer have to live in fear of the dreaded rusted outriggers !
