fuel tank sender
Discussion
So, is it plastic?
The plastic one is still available and there should be a locking ring used with this one too but I think when some have had problems with sealing their tank they have drilled the sender and tank and screws have been used, mine is like this and I have had problems sealing it and I can't go back to the intended fitment now because of the drilled holes. I've replaced the sender using screws and then used a good tank sealer over the entire unit, it looks a bit ugly but it's out of sight so I'm not too worried.

Just rang, "No longer available, have a word with your local dealer"
Oh please, so they can tell me to fit a new tank or worse !! a stainless one !!!
I can see this may cost a bit?
Think i will have a go at remanufacturing the old track on the sender first.
might get me a stick to dip the tank

Here is a VERY technical drawing (Direct from TVR no less!!) of the 3 types of Fuel senders on S series.
AFAIK they only have/had the bottom type left, which with a bit of modifying a plastic lip fits S2 onwards (As i had to do to my S2), Im not sure if it can be modified to fit the bolt on S1 type.
Not much help, other than showing the picture of the 3 types.

Thanks Smern, that's helpful.
Looks like mine is a bodged L0148 type (extra holes and self tappers in it).
I had to get the 10039 type (bottom one) and drill holes to match those in the tank. Needless to say it leaked a fair bit!
I've encased it in some sealing compound used to seal fuel tanks and it still has a small weep (OK if tank is half full). I'm going to have another go at it soon and seal it over completely, it all works OK and should be fine for years so I don't really mind sealing it in permanently.

mines the top one so it looks like out with the soldering iron!!
You sure it's the top one ?
You can view a bigger version of the image here (click on the image) It's a massive version, but big enough to print out ok on an A4 sheet.

The top image fixing holes are marked 'fixing holes Plugged up' and this was what was fitted to my S2, it was held in place by the locking ring. The holes were blocked up from the factory. I changed it to the bottom type. Which was plastic and therefore required 2 o rings to make a good seal, oh and a slight plastic lug modification.
AFAIK the middle one was the one fitted to the S1 ... S1.5 models. (but knowing TVR who knows for sure) as it's the one held in place by bolts rather than the locking ring.
KentishS2 I think you said before you were having problems as yours must have originally been the locking ring type and someone fitted the bolt on type and drilled the tank to fit it ? and now you can't get a good seal because the tank it warped/rippled where it was modded ? You were trying to source a replacement tank as a result of this, what was the outcome ?
Good to see you back by the way
