Can anyone recommend compatible battery supplier?

Hi All,

I'm going to Peru in a few weeks and as we're going a bit 'off piste' i'm not going to have space for my SLR and don't know when i'll get a chance to charge so was going to take my Canon S110 + a 'handful' of batteries.. due to the massive cost of the official ones and the fact i'll probably buy 4 or so I was thinking of going compatible.. but after a but of googling it looks like a minefield..

Some are very cheap <£5-7 and claim to offer the full 1120mah of juice other official (ish) ones like duracell/energizer etc seem to be twice the price and offer 850mah of juice. Are the really cheap ones lying? or is is marketing nonsense and they all come out of the same factory? (as I guess the <£20 canon ones are fake!?)

Has anyone had any Canon NB-5L batteries that have been alright? I would rather buy a few 'decent' batteries rather than loads of st ones...

The ones I've got from 7dayshop (their own brand) have been good and reliable, although not your specific model.

Another vote for 7 day shop here, I've had batteries from them for various Canon cameras over they years.

The only ones I have had fade away so far are a couple I got for my old Pentax S5i back in about 2004 iirc. Quite old stabdards back then and the cheapos (2 for £9 at the time I seem to remember) have lasted just as well as the original though lack of regular use and age mean that none of them are really serviceable today. (Well, the one I can't find might be but as I can't find it ....)

I've used a few other sources as well with similar results. I'm not convinced by the intermediate 'branded' price ranges. I have one for my Canon 1D3 (obviously a different size and concept to the pocket stuff). It seems to perform perhaps slightly less well than the original battery and a very much cheaper non-brand item is every bit as good and possibly even better than the original for power and weather proofing (important for a 1 series) with nothing to detract from it as far as I can tell. I've been using it for at least 2years rotating among the three.

Cheers all - unfortunately the battery I needed seemed to be the only one they didn't stock.

Ordered 4x from http://www.dc-battery.co.uk for £21.62 total inc shipping.

I've got a Freeload solar charger with Cam Caddy camera battery charger. if you're running several batteries it might help as I'm not sure how fast it will charge a single camera battery, but the freeloader can be charged from a PC or 12v source, and then used to charge your batteries.
I used to have a Non-Nikon charger for my old Nikon batteries that took mains or 12v directly, but the batteries in my new nikon don't fit.

Can the S110 charge by USB?

If so, one of these and a suitable USB cable will see you right. I've got one for charging my phone/tablet etc:

Just stick it on charge overnight, 12000mah should do you for awhile.
