Can't quite believe I'm writing this but the time is fast approaching when my new daughter will cost more than my elise to run! I've been hanging onto my Mk 2 Type 49 by my fingertips for the last year. I should be able to hold onto it for a little while longer but if anyone knows of a good home, I might just have to accept the inevitable. Before anyone mentions it, my wife won't let me sell our daughter instead!!! In the meantime, thanks for all your posts - informative and otherwise - I'll keep looking in jealously!

Why do you need to sell?

If its space just buy a 4 door banger to go to the shops and back.

mgee,

My status at present is an Elise and two young lads 18 months and the other nearly 4. Bought my wife a Seat Cupra Sport 12months in advance of the Elise.

Damn hard to have a good proposition to retain the car. I keep quite about service bills, also taken out AA parts and labour insurance (£100 per year for £1000 cover - not had a claim yet). Promise to upgrade the wife car as the family car.

Touch wood DVO remains.

My theory is, the pain to retain the Elise is for less than the grief and ache of being without and trying to convince my wife in letting me buy another Elise or equivalent in 5 years time.

Keep the faith, good luck dear chap onward into battle.

Ok I have a plan - this is what I did. I sold my TDi Passat (missing my old 911 SSE Supersport too much), bought a 111s and a T reg Mondeo (estate, ghia, tow bar etc). The Mondeo cost me £1760 - for a 1999 model, CD AC all the bits - BTW that's feckin good value - this thing will run forever and the service parts a super cheap, almost free. You can do oil changes etc yourself, its v.easy a monkey could do it (go to Halfords and take in the view). Perfect for the family and you still get to spin around in the Elise... perfect!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back - been away.

Thanks for your advice, both practical and medical!

Trouble is that the wife has an old Volvo V70R already - great for kids and dogs and the most fun you can have in old estate. I have a dull mondy company car and the '49 is a pleasure I'm not sure I can hold on to.

Like the parts and labour insurance idea though the tax, insurance and depreciation are doing the damage.

A main dealer offered me £17.5K - that will be 9K gone in 18 months then! - On the plus side, I s'pose I'm through the worst now!

Asked the wife about her kidneys...the black eye's going down a bit now...
