Google music - or spotify - randomness question

I'm in the middle of the Google play trial period, and a question has entered my head....

While you can randomly play anything in your library, is there any way of picking an artist, and playing what's available whether you have anything or not..

For example, I can play anything from the CD's in my library of Band X, but can that be extended to the stuff I don't have?

Or, can I pick an artist I don't have anything by, and similarly, play anything at random, not just a certain album, in random order?

Sorry if that's a bit woolly, but you get my drift?

Spotify. You can play/stream anything on their service.

What are these CD's of which you speak??
