What happens if your vehicle fails its MOT even if the previous one hasn't expired?
Is the previous one then null-and-void as the most recent one takes precedence?

For example, you have a car with a short (say 3 month) MOT left you want to sell. You take it for a new MOT as its more saleable with a 12 month MOT. If it fails can it still be sold with a valid 3 month MOT?

If the existing MOT is now not valid how is it enforced as you'll still have the original MOT Certificate?

Cheers...... Andrew

In reality...your old test certificate is still valid...

Remember though..a MOT certificate confirms the vehicle's condition on THAT particular day of test. If the vehicle's condition later deterioriates and becomes unroadworthy, the MOT certificate wont get you out of the poo...

The advisory/fail notice from the new garage is for your information to get the vehicle fixed to pass the new test.

If you have a collision with another car or pedestrian and the defects are found, you will be responsible, regardless of whether you were aware or not.
