Xbox 360 Repairs
Discussion
Swapping out the DVD drive is an easy DIY job.
You just need to take out your existing, check the make, buy a working one (Ebay good for this) and transfer the circuit board thingy from yours onto the replacement.
Takes a bit of time though and may be easier/quicker to get someone local.
Which doesn't answer your question
Gumtree can be a good place to find a local repair/dodgy chap.
Mine has just gone pop too. RROD for the 3rd time this year after several repairs. I'm not bothering with it and going to wait for the next gen stuff to come out... I'd really, really like a go on GTAV though!

not that easy actually, you need to flash firmware with your xboxs code onto the new drive, otherwise it wont read anything apart from DVD movies. You just need to take out your existing, check the make, buy a working one (Ebay good for this) and transfer the circuit board thingy from yours onto the replacement.

It was that easy on mine. There's a bit of circuit board mounted to the drive, this is unique to your machine. You just have to swap this from your knackered drive to the working one, no flashing needed. dave_s13 said:

Some you can just unplug the little circuit board and others you just have to solder 5 wires, if you're remotely competent with a soldering iron you'll be fine.
5 minute job and about £20-£25 for the drive normally
