Putting Plate On Retention - Quickest Way ?

Hi,

Have just spoken to the DVLA but I want to confirm the guy was correct.

I have bought a car because I want the plate - I have no interest in the car.

I was expecting to be able to send off the V5 and a request to put the plate on retention at the same time.

But I was told I have to send off the V5 - wait 4 weeks for it to come back THEN send all the forms back for the retention.

Surely this can't be correct.

If it is, the tax runs out in 2 weeks - can't I retain a plate on a car on SORN ?

If I understand it correctly, you only have the right to a plate that's on a car registered to yourself.
So in this instance, register the car, fill in and send off the retention document when you have the V5.
