On the way back from lunch on a twisty B-road, I encountered a cyclist and had to slow down to his pace behind him until I could see a safe opportunity to pass him. I had to wait 39 seconds for a safe gap, so I passed, he waved, I waved back and I continued on my way to work without any stress or ill-will.

Thought I'd share.

Where's the bit where you're both yelling at each other about road tax (the names, origin, payment and purpose of)?

A recent thread about cyclists riding 2 abreast on a quiet country road ran to something like 20+ pages. No-one died in the incident although you wouldn't realise that by the level of rage directed at cyclists in general.

There's a thread started today about 3 people killed in an EVO, driven by an absolute spanner by the sounds of it. Wonder how many comments that will attract - its up to 7 so far.

Pistonheads - hypocrisy matters.

It's not 39 seconds either because he was still moving for those 39 seconds so possibly nearer 30 seconds!

I'm a keen cyclist myself and do genuinely feel that it makes me more aware of cyclists in general. I may be talking out my arse though hehe

It may even have only make him 39 seconds faster to the next set of traffic lights in which case, he didn't arrive at his destination any quicker at all scratchchin

I'd have run the fker over. 39 seconds. 39 fking seconds. Absolute fking liberty. They don't pay for the fking roads, they shouldn't be on them. Bet he was wearing lycra too, the fker.

I had one today, tried to stop me overtaking him as there wasn't enough room for a safe overtake, ran the fker over. I don't wait for anyone, my time is far too important - unless of course it's a car, van, bus, coach or lorry, in which case I'll just patiently wait in the massive queue like everyone else.

I don't believe anyone has ever waited 39 seconds to overtake a cyclist.

I wish drivers wouldn't overtake to then stop 5m ahead of me to turn right blocking my progress...
