Last Saturday Porsche Swindon held a 50th Anniversary event.

Had a great day out with the mrs, they did a grand job!

Amazing selection of cars from all of the generations all under one roof, surprising no 996 iirc.

Test drove a 991 C4S for an hour with a driving specialist from Silverstone. I'm in love with the car, it was fitted with PSE and never thought I would say this but sounded better than my 996 C4Spaperbag It had the annoying noise cut off, but the instructor wasn't sure if you can unplug and I was unable to see as the engine was covered. Huge improvement on the 997 in every way, possibly the brakes and steering weren't but wouldn't call it bad either. Now just need for the price to come down, the test car was over £100k What's interesting is that when I drove it within a few seconds I knew it was right for me, when I drove a 997 Turbo PDK a while ago, I kept having to justify it as in no noise but look at the speed etc, however I think it just comes down to noise and NA are what pushes my buttons.

ENJOY

Ah. That's what it was. I drove past and noted it was full of people with drinks and nibbles.

Drove the 4S Pdk at Croft recently , very nice car , tried to get into a new one but the dealers are playing hard ball on discount.

The spec of the one I was thinking about pushed the price up to just under GT3 money .

And that got me thinking....

I would be curious to know if anybody has compared the 2s with the 4s back to back..

I have a feeling ppl are going for the 4s on the back of some EVO quick drive saying that the steering feel was better than the 2s.. although I have not seen this fact substantiated from real ppl actually having driven the 2 cars..

I have a 2S and would honestly really do not need the 4 system.. Traction is so spectacular than 4s would largely be an unsed complication. And for those telling me winter conditions would make a difference.. well I tend not to use the 911 when snow is abundant.. and think that in that case winter tires would be far more effective.

Or maybe the strip of light at the back is making the whole difference ? smile

For mesmile at high speed 4WD is more stable due to weight at front and less movement(sliding) for fast road driving and steering is heavier which I like based on a 996, 997.1 and 997.2 comparison.

I have.

It's actually very difficult for the average driver to compare the two, other than subjectively, as conditions are never identical, and neither are specifications - with the various permutations of driver aids and chassis options.

However, I did feel the C4S felt that bit more satisfying and, an everyday, whatever-the-weather road car, ride, handling, steering, braking (pccbs), chassis control.... all exceptional. But, with PDK, and some of the synthesised interference, I can see why the earlier analogue cars still have such strong appeal.

So, for the best of all worlds you would need both - one of the latest 991s plus one of the 2.7RSs above wink

I saw a flat nose 911 in that colour stripped right down to the shell about 18 months back at the bod shop used by OPC Colchester. Wonder if its the same one?

Interesting indeed, there's a few 997 GT3s in interesting colours around indeed. If you look at the 991 gt3 thread though majority of depositors are going for plain colours and close to none for PTS.

Not that I can criticise as am down for a plain (but gorgeous) white one :-)

Yeah, it was quite interesting - that seemed to be the only major series not represented, and considering the new architecture the 996 introduced, I thought that was a let down having seen some of the 96 series cars that they have in for work.

Not sure why they didn't maybe they couldn't get access to one as many of the cars belonged to customers. Or they just thought the 996 would be too ugly. However 996 GT2 or GT3 would probably deserve a place among those beauties.

Although not comparable I enjoyed this event as a Porsche enthusiast more than FOS.

I did wonder why I'd seen some of those cars in the window on my morning commute. Wish I'd stopped for a better look now. I assume a few cars were Lovett family owned?

Yeah, there were a couple of the older cars from the Lovett collection.

During the event there was a prize draw which you had to answer a number of questions on the 50 years of the 911, surprisingly I won these Porsche coasters, which I received tonight!!!

Another nice touch to a great event held by Swindonbeer
