sold my old Citreon on ebay, an 06 plate c1. The car has always run fine no issues. I sold it via ebay auction last week, guy came to pick it up and looked over it and started it. Now 5 days later he says it is running rich and the engine is noisy and he wants to bring it back and return it. I am not a motor trader, just a private seller selling my car. Has he any comeback or is it sold as seen.

sold as seen, he inspected it, you have no moral obligation to reimburse him. Ignore all contact with him.

No none whatsoever, as a private sale it is solely his responsibility to inspect the car and there are no warranties. Try not to engage with him verbally, state to him all communication needs to be written and keep a record of any interactions should you need to inform the local police of his harassment of yourself.

+1 - you have no obligations to fulfil as long as you described the car honestly AFAIK. Delete email - end of story. Do not enter into a dialogue!

Well played, with Paypal sellers have literally no protection. I'm sure I've been scammed out of money as a seller on Ebay (much lower value items) but sadly the whole Ebay system is very "buyer-friendly" when it comes to claiming goods are not as described/ have not arrived.

The way forward is to have no dialogue with him. As long as you keep replying, he'll keep it up.

He has no legal comeback and has probably just changed his mind. If he wanted a guarantee, he should have gone to a dealer.

Tell him that it was sold as seen. If he makes any threats against you contact the Police, if he threatens legal action just ignore him.

Well done with saying Cash Only..

Could have easily ended up with a Paypal dispute then a chargeback.. you'd be without car or money!

Simply direct the buyer to this thread, or one of the many others like it on PH. After reading a dozen or so of them, the notion that they are breathtakingly stupid may start to take seed in their tiny mind.

Here's a few just for starters:

If the buyer was prepared to assess the condition of the car themselves but wasn't prepared to live with the consequences, they should have been looking at cars from dealers, not privately advertised cars. Why do they think dealers charge more than private sellers?

Just a thought. My boss has a 2008 C1, and recently the exhaust split from the backbox, making it very loud, and allowing more fumes to permeate into the cabin. From how he explained it, it sounds like an inherent design fault with how the exhaust is made, so it could well be the same problem? He fixed it with a can, some glue and a jubilee clip, although the repair hasn't lasted.

Either way though, it's not your problem anymore.

And just how has this automotive genius decided its running rich? Amazing, just tell him sold as seen and you've spent the money!!
