I know most endorsement codes can have the 0, 2, 4, or 6 suffixes to denote committing the offence, aiding, abetting, counselling, procuring the offence, causing, permitting the offence, and inciting the offence respectively.

What would be the endorsement code for having an illegally spaced reg. plate, and what would be the endorsement code if I was to supply a mis-spaced plate to a friend?

I ask because you see DVLA openly aiding in this heinous crime . Can they (or their agents) not be given the relevant endorsement for selling the plate in the first place as this must be aiding and abetting at the least.

They can’t use the argument that they state in their literature that the plate cannot be mis-spaced and then go on to put up certain number plates for auction (i.e. AR53 NAL). That would be like me selling a gun to someone and saying “remember it’s illegal to shoot someone”.

Why do the DVLA get away with charging a fortune for number plates that they say do not and cannot be made to represent anything.

They cannot say they do no know what is going on, as ignorance is not a defence. If they do maintain that they don’t know it is going on then they should charged with perjury as well.

BTW my new reg is fine as supplied so will not need to be mis-spaced

Mis-spacing VRMs (vehicle registration mark) isn't endorsable and therefore doesn't appear on licences...

As for DVLA...if people want to pay big money for plates..it's up to them...if they alter the plates..that's also up to them...nobody else to blame...

Yep..correct..

options for the BiB

1) £30 fine
2) Report on summons to court...(fine plus costs)
3) Vehicle Defect form..(must be rectified in 14days)

Also DVLA are sent details of offending drivers. If you get caught more that twice, DVLA will take the rights to the plate from you (no matter how much you paid)..your vehicle will then have to go back to the original plate and you'll lose your money and have to pay £80 re-registration fee.......

If that's your plate..

That's the differnce between someone who takes the time to find the right plate for them....as opposed to the numpties who buy something similar to their name and then move letters, get some to slope, add different coloured rivets to the background etc etc

Don't know really....I've only had about 6 or 7 repeat offenders in the last few years and I know for definate 3 of those had the plates taken from them. I didn't check up on the other ones...

ps: One plate cost over £1500 and the guy lost the whole amount. I think he tried to sue the DVLA but...lost.

I thought it might come under one of the construction & use endoresements, never mind!

The other issue I have is the fact that they don't seem to issue any other plates with the AR53 prefix as it looks rude but if you are not reading anything into it then it can't be rude, can it?

Surely AR53 NAL is rude as well then - or does profit conquer all (rhetorical question obviously).

"M5 BMW" would be cool, but I'm sticking to one of the cheap generic "M5 ???" ones instead. It can stay with the car then. There's no way I can afford a plate with my initials (ACI) though! Last time I looked "AC 1" was £72k!

Erm, its not illegal to have an Unregistered vehicle tho, so why not just continue driving it without any plates on at all? Why bother even trying to re register it? Makes camera id impossible..

Or am i missing something here?

you get 3 months to register a vehcile. I insured a newly imported vehicle on the VIN number, but was only issued a 3 month cover-note and they expected the Registration details.... As for any others laws you'll be breaking I dont know...

I saw a car with a suspect VRM in Filey last week.

I can't remember the first bit, but it appeared to be ? 17 NDA but what I think was meant to be a '7' was actually an 'L' rotated through 180 degrees. There was no gap between the rotated 'L' and the 'N'. Presumably this was all to suit someone called Linda.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I'm sorry guys, but if you're stupid enough to give the DVLA yet more income just to have a different number plate on your car, then you deserve all you get from them.
Despite all my years and experience with the most exotic cars imaginable, I could never understand why anyone would pay thousands of pounds for something that is utterly useless.
I know I'm probably going to get slated for this, but I have to say it.

If I'm not mistaken those stick on plates are not 100% legal, or am I wrong?
