Going to look at a car that is 170 miles away, have done the negotatition based on photos and the car is 1 owner, low miles etc, probably is it isnt taxed, insurance is easy enough, just not sure how to tax a car on a Saturday morning, assuming the local post Office is open how does it work with a change of keeper ?

Car I dont think is currently insured and is on sorn, was going to ask the owner to tax it if I send the funds, but he cant if it isnt insured.

Can I do it online whilst there or does the online bit check to see if its on the MID database ?

Am I going to have to do two near 400 mile round trips ?

Why does it have to be such a pain in the backside ?

If you do it online, the disc will be sent to the old keeper since the change of keeper won't have been completed.

Online and at Post Office will both check MID, but it might be helpful to have an insurance certificate available for inspection at the Post Office, just in case.

Assuming the car is MOT'd, a visit to a tax issuing Post Office with a copy of your insurance certificate (in case MID hasn't updated) and the New Keeper Supplement would be fine.

Cheers,

Not sure why the system has to make it so difficult for law abiding people, happy (well, have accepted) the £490 charge, I just need to be able to pay it to someone !

What car are you going to look at? Presume it's something unusual/rare if you're willing to go 170 miles to look at it!

350Z Convertible

Just sold my lovely 944 Cab, fancied something a little newer, possibly a little faster that doesnt need as much fettling but still had some character, convertible as after having one I didnt want another tin top, have other cars to use, hard swallowing the £490 VED though, the £275 insurance was more pleasing though, ah the joys of being older. I knwo the convertible is not as good looking, heavier, a little slower, a little wobblier but I am sure it will provide enough entertainment, was looking at E46 M3's but it seems like a minefield of cracked subframes, dodgy geysers and sketchy history in my price range.

looks like I have the doc side organised, spoke to the local Post Office and they do them so should be ok.
