Evening all.

I had some refurbished WRX 4 pots fitted to the Forester with new discs and pads last week but over the last couple of days I've heard a knocking sound from the front with the rotation of the wheel. It goes away when any pressure is put onto the brakes and I think I've found a couple of issues tonight after inspecting it.

Firstly, I've never taken off or fitted new brakes so excuse any ignorance here.

The first issue is that the two pins were protruding about 4mm on both callipers on both sides. I can push these back in and pull them out again but didn't want to go any further in case I screwed anything up.

Secondly there is a fair bit of play on the pads themselves, as you can see from the video below. Again, this is on both sides.

It's due to go back in to have it resolved but I wanted to check here first to get some opinions.

Cheers,

David

First off the pin is the pad locating pin
It is not a tight fit and usually has a spring clip one end to stop it coming out
Pads will be floating until brake pressed but usually tight enough not to wobble
Clonking noise from brakes is usually loose main mounting bolts or loose wheel nuts

Pads can rattle, but there should be anti-rattle shims in place to stop this.
Some pads are better quality than others, so there may be cheap crap in there and they simply dont fit properly, which would make them far more prone to rattling.
