My 390SE has the single pipe after centre box and then one last box prior to tail pipe.

Just wondering what bypassing/removing the last box would do sound wise - would it make much difference?

Got a bit of db envy hearing some of the cars at back home!

Maybe a bit - mine has no rear box and does 116dB(A) on full chat.

I only have the one silencer and then my pipe goes under the axle and then out the back so quite a straight pipe and it sounds great when you floor it but quite civilised under light throttle.

Hi Mate..I was pushing 113db when i had my mid and rear silencers changed for cherry bombs..Then i had the rear silencers removed and currently pushing 119db at 4000rpm..A by-pass valve is a must on a V8...Give it beans and hear it roar like the devil with a toothache...evil

Well this is what I was thinking but I'd need to fork out for 2 bypass valves to bypass both silencers (2 downpipes into first box) or just one to bypass the back box. 2 bypass valves gets a bit expensive!

Hi Mate..Not sure of the cost but maybe a straight through system with removeable rear baffles for that "EXTRA" Noisy Bastid effect...biggrin

I had a full stainless steel system fitted for my 400SE soon after buying for £400 (2008) ((The exhaust was £400 NOT the Car!!!))

This had a small 12" silencer where the pipe goes past the fuel tank (for safety) and over the back axle
then had a cherry bomb across the back

Unfortunately the cherry bomb kept catching the road on cambered single track roads around me
and also I went on a Leeds Tunnel Run with 2 old fezzas and 2 TVRs and the Fezzas won the sound stakes

So I took my car back (in disgust!!)and for £60 they just removed the cherry bomb
and fitted a straight through pipe across the back (left the 12" long silencer by the fuel tank)

I was 2nd loudest Wedge at BBWF2012 with 128Db!!! eek

I have had constant compliments ever since from Wedgers, other TVR owners and the general public alike

It does have a certain rpm level when there is a slight "drone" in the cockpit but this is easily past through (read quickly!!)
and even running at speed on the motorway in 5th gear is comfortable enough to chat easily

You can never make a V8 too loud in my book!!!!!! They are made to be heard!!!!

JUST DO IT

Had the option of buying a sports instead of normal when the old one gave up. Went for normal as at the time I was doing a lot of miles to and from work. Personal choice. This one, whilst normal, still makes itself felt.

Right - can't stand it!! I have ordered a solenoid bypass valve so I can go calmy or barmy. I do trips to Spa/Le Mans so want to be able to have it calmer for cruising on distances.

Will see how it goes sounds and report back.

What bypass valve are you thinking of using?

Im going to bypass my middle box as the pipe entries are on the same side, so all I will need is a valve and some stainless tube. (similar to a letter 'Y' set up, and piping across the top)

With the bypass valve you just have a short stub pipe and vent straight out - none of this rechanneling malarky!
